Tissue Bank Unit/National Tissue Bank, School of Medical Sciences, Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia serve as an academic as well as a service oriented unit in the production of tissue allografts, xenografts and other biomaterials. The unit was established in July 1991, with the support of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Malaysian Nuclear Agency formerly known as Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (MINT) and is playing a national role in Tissue Banking research and services since it is the one and only Tissue Bank in Malaysia. The activity of the Bank is implemented hand in hand with the national organ and tissue donation programs which is vital for its success.

Seventeen years on and the National Tissue Bank is still evolving. ANNIE FREEDA CRUEZ gets an insight into the role of this all important institute that is serving Malaysian patients.
HE was rushed to the hospital screaming in pain, his face and chest scalded by boiling water. And it took the doctors quite some time to soothe the pain and calm the frightened little boy.
