Welcome to School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia
The School of Medical Sciences was established in 1979 and we are based in USM Health campus in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. The Health Campus is fully equipped with up-to-date teaching, research and patient care facilities including our 747 bedded teaching hospital, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM). This is in accordance with the primary aims for its establishment to produce doctors and medical practitioners to meet the nation’s need as well as to upgrade the medical services of the country.
We are the first medical school in Malaysia which adopted integrated medical curriculum with the S.P.I.C.E.S model which means that the curriculum has the following features:

With the rapid development of medicine, we have taken up the challenges with the review of curriculum in every 5 years and the next one is due to take place in 2013. In fact, we are planning to revamp our curriculum and introducing a program to produce physician-scientist to cater for the future needs.
Our medical program has received 5 years accreditation from MQA/MMC since 2008. We have also received certification for ISO 9001:2008 in 2010 for the Teaching & Learning.
After USM received the APEX status in 2008, we were given autonomy to select our students through various processes including an interview. This gives us an opportunity to train well-rounded medical students in order to become a better doctor for the future.
In 2009, we embarked in a very interesting international collaboration with KLE Society in Belgaum, India. Our USM-KLE International Medical Program, a private offshore program begin the first intake in 2010. We have a dedicated Deputy Dean who is based in Belgaum, India.
As of December 2012, we have produced almost 4000 medical doctors for the country. We are very proud to see many of them are now the specialists, sub specialists and leaders in various fields of medicine.
