Research And Innovation Office
This is a dedicated office under the Office of Deputy Dean (Research) that assists researchers and research-related matters. It acts as a secretariat for the School Research Committee in guiding and reviewing grant applications for researchers, and manages a database system known as Research Information System (RIS).
Central Research Laboratory (CRL)
The central research laboratory has four sections namely Basic Instrumentation, Analytical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Histopathology section which can be accessed by all staffs and students. The centre supports primarily the research activities of the School of Medical Sciences by providing advice, technical assistance and access to the scientific equipments and facilities, but also accessible to other institutions.
Clinical Trial Unit (CTU)
This unit is an inclusive platform to facilitate national and international clinical trials.
Cell Culture Laboratory
This is a dedicated multi-user laboratory to cater researchers in the School of Medical Sciences who utilise numerous cell lines in their research. This laboratory befits the environment for cell-culture work, with a range of supportive facilities and skilled manpower that meet the needs of researchers in their specific research field. An introductory on-site training in Biosafety and standard operational procedures will be provided by the respective laboratory manager.
Human Genome Centre (HGC)
This centre deals with research in human and medical genetics. It aims to raise the ability, strategy and consultation for human genome explorations, extending the importance and advancement of science and technology in the era of human genomics.
Fundamental & Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory
From a rapidly expanding infrastructure to support a steady growth of research and innovation in recent years at USM, both Fundamental and Clinical Neuroscience laboratories at the Department of Neurosciences continue to facilitate key niche areas of our researchers whilst creating links for collaborations with others in the field of Neurosciences. The unique setting rivals only by few similar in Malaysia.
Public Health Laboratory
This is a dedicated laboratory catering for public health research and aspires to be the centre of excellence in research and innovation in the field of public health and community medicine.
This unit engages in services involving biological tissues for transplantation and conducts biomaterial research and development.
Tissue Engineering & Integrated Reconstructive Science Laboratory (INTEREST)
This is a centre for reconstructive research. The Tissue Engineering Laboratory & Integrated Reconstructive Science Laboratory (INTEREST) is an indication of commitment of the centre to embark on intense research activity and broader collaboration to achieve the quality and sustainability.
Our medical laboratories consist of Haematology, Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology laboratories. Clinical diagnostic and research move parallel to meet the needs of the community and researchers.
Biostatistics & Research Methodology Unit
This is a unit to aid research in study design and statistical analysis.
Medical Strategic Communications Unit (MedikSCOM)
This is a unit dedicated to assist researchers in publishing their scientific research findings in local, regional and international journals, and strategic communication on expertise and research activities within the Medical School.
