Integrated Neuroscience

Integrated Neuroscience Programme (INP):
 
Master of Neuroscience (M.Neurosc)/Doctor of Neuroscience (Neurosc.D) 
 
OBJECTIVE:
 
The main objective of this Integrated Neuroscience Programme (INP) is to equip and train graduates with appropriate background and interest in the challenging studies and understanding of the nervous system, in preparation for a future career as a neuroscientist within a diverse inter-disciplinary fields.
This mixed-mode INP offers a unique approach to graduate neuroscience education and research training, the first of its kind in Malaysia, with a dual tract of One-year Master of Neuroscience, and Three-year Doctor of Neuroscience (i.e. 1 Plus 3 option). Candidates will enroll initially into the stand-alone Master of Neuroscience tract before being recommended for credits transfer to progress into the Doctor of Neuroscience tract, subject to meeting the pre-doctoral INP progress assessment.
 
PROGRAME OVERVIEW
 
As a dual tract programme, candidates are expected to complete the programme in 4 years (or 8 semesters). As a stand-alone tract, Master of Neuroscience will take a minimum of 1 year (or 2 semesters) and a maximum of 2 years (or 4 semesters). As a stand-alone tract, Doctor of Neuroscience will take a minimum of 3 years (or 6 semesters) and a maximum of 5 years (or 10 semesters).  As a mixed-mode programme, the teaching and learning will involve didactic classes (lectures and tutorials) as well as coursework, practical and research components.

Admission Criteria:
 
For entry into the Integrated Neuroscience Programme, applicants should be:
  • A Bachelor Degree holder (in Basic Sciences, Medical & Health Sciences or related fields) with a CGPA > 3.0 from a recognised institution, or
  • A Bachelor Degree holder of the fields stated above with CGPA < 3.0 but > 2.5 may also apply, provided this is supported by no less than 2 years research experience in the related fields, or had acquired a commendable grade (Grade A and equivalent) in the respective Bachelor Degree final year project.
Additional admission notes for applicants:
  • Foreign applicants are required to have a minimum score of 550 in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Evidence for this must be submitted with the application form.
  • Subject to meeting the required admission criteria, applicants may be invited to a pre-admission interview to complete the application process.
